Finding Strength Through Nature

Badges and Backpacks provides police, firefighters, and medical personnel with the opportunity to experience nature therapy.

Serving First Responders

First Responders carry the pain and heartache of the people they serve. This takes a tremendous toll on mind, body and soul causing Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

We are here to help those that have selflessly served others as First Responders. The stress these local heroes experience can go unrecognized, as do the mental health effects they live with from selflessly dedicating themselves to the safety and welfare of their communities.

Recovering Strength Through Nature

We provide police, firefighters, and medical personnel the opportunity to experience therapy in nature. First Responders have the opportunity to hike approximately 100 to 150 miles on a nature trail. While hiking the trail, participants camp in secluded areas of the trail.

Badges & Backpacks provides the equipment and experience to benefit from nature therapy. We give the men and women who protect and serve our communities the tools to find strength in nature.

Why Hiking

Hiking in nature allows first responders to decompress and develop coping methods that ease the stress from their careers. As stated in Hiking benefits mental health and well-being

The interconnectedness of mind, body and soul is a universal truth, yet a truth that is often lost in today’s compartmentalized society. Hiking is an easy way to reconnect all aspects of the self with nature, and doing so simply feels good.
